Awards season is well underway, and the 2023 Emmys did not disappoint.

Usually held in September, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were postponed due to the recent Actors’ and Writers’ strikes last year, with a revised air date of January 16, 2024.

This year’s Emmy nominations officially reminded us that it was an excellent year of television.

Succession‘s final season swept most categories, with a grand total of 27 nominations — the most of the year. It was followed closely by The Last Of Us — Pedro Pascal’s apocalyptic contagion series — with 24 nominations, and The White Lotus season two with 23.

It was a solid year for homegrown talent, with a few Aussies recognised in the mix. Chief among those was, of course, our own Sarah Snook (i.e. Succession‘s Shiv Roy and our own June 2023 cover girl) who stole the show’s epic finale.

The star gave a heart-warming speech when accepting her award, thanking her daughter, who she was pregnant with during the final season, for helping her achieve greatness.

“It’s very easy to act when you’re pregnant because you’ve got hormones raging. It was more that, the proximity of her life growing inside me gave me the strength to do this and this performance, and I love you so much,” Snook added. “And it’s all for you from here on out. Thank you.”

Meanwhile, other Emmy-nominated Aussies include: Elizabeth Debicki, nominated for her role as Princess Diana in The Crown, and Murray Bartlett, who is nominated for his spot in the limited series Welcome To Chippendales (but who you’ll probably remember as the hotel manager in the first season of White Lotus).
