Last week we got the excellent news that Love Actually is getting a sequel in the form of a short, 10 minute film for Red Nose Day. The original cast will be reuniting for the short, but unfortunately not everyone will be back.
Sadly, given the tragic passing of Alan Rickman last year, director Richard Curtis had not planned to reprise the storyline between him and Emma Thompson.
Curtis spoke to BBC Two’s Victoria Derbyshire about his plans for the short film to collaborate with Comic Relief, a British Charity that he co-founded.
“Oddly, we’re not quite sure [if Emma Thompson will be in it],” Curtis said. “It’s all been done in a great rush and I think not but I’m now thinking again.”

He added that all the original cast had been very enthusiastic about the reboot, even at short notice.
“Amazingly, nobody said no. Liam [Neeson] flew over yesterday from America and is going back to America tomorrow. There is a lot of affection for the film.”
It would be difficult to revisit Emma Thompson’s storyline in the short ten minutes without Rickman, but here’s hoping she’ll make a small appearance nonetheless.
After seeing the first photos from the reboot with all the various turtlenecks, we simply can’t wait!
The short film will premiere on BBC 1 on March 24 in the UK, and will air on NBC in the US on May 25.
