We already know Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding can play a romantic lead and the same goes for Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke (those steamy scenes with Jon Snow!), so these two starring in a rom-com together, and a Christmas one at that, might be the greatest thing to hit the big screen since Cameron Diaz and Jude Law hooked up on a snowy winterโs night in 2006โs The Holiday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the 31-year-old Game of Thrones actress and the 31-year-old Crazy Rich Asians actor have signed on the dotted line to star in a holiday rom-com called Last Christmas.
The holiday romance will be directed by Paul Feig, whose most recent film, A Simple Favor, stars Henry Golding as Blake Livelyโs character, Emilyโs, husband. Feig is fast becoming known as the comedy director du jour having directed a number of surprise break out comedy hits including 2011โs Bridesmaids, 2013โs The Heat and 2015โs Spy.
Per The Hollywood Reporter the screenplay for Last Christmas will be written by Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson and Bryony Kimmings, with plot details being kept tightly under wraps. The only details The Hollywood Reporter can confirm is that is a โholiday romance set in London.โ
Which sounds very similar to the premise of three of the most iconic and beloved holiday rom-coms of all time, The Holiday, Love Actually and Bridget Jonesโs Diary. And we are here for any movie that follows in those fine footsteps.
No information as yet on when the film will go into production, but given Game of Thrones recently wrapped filming on the final season, weโre guessing Emilia Clarke is free to start filming Last Christmas any day.
