Sunrise host Edwina Bartholomew has announced she’s expecting her second child with husband Neil Varcoe—and she shared the news live on air.
The 38-year-old journalist, who has a two-year-old daughter Molly, shared the exciting news at the end of a segment, simply stating to the camera: “We’re having another baby.”
As her co-hosts David Koch and Natalie Barr exclaimed in delight, Bartholomew added the new baby has a due date of February 2022.
“I tried to tell Molly, she wasn’t terribly interested,” the newsreader laughed, before adding that she and husband Neil already know the gender of the baby, but they’re keeping that information to themselves for now.
Bartholomew elaborated on her pregnancy, explaining that Jatz biscuits have been her saviour thus far.
“I’m five per cent baby and 95 per cent Jatz right now,” she quipped.
She added she’d been feeling a little nauseas in the mornings, noting her colleague Nat Barr might have cottoned on already.
Kochie however appeared oblivious: “I just thought you didn’t like my comments sometimes,” he joked.
Edwina and Neil married in 2018 on a farm near rural Lithgow, New South Wales.
For the occasion, the accomplished journalist wore a stunning vintage wedding dress which was worn by three generations of her family. For Edwina’s special day, she had the gown altered by Melbourne couturier Sonia Cappellazzo, of Cappellazzo Couture.
Several months later, she revealed she was pregnant with the couple’s first child—again, live on air.
In December 2019, she welcomed a baby girl, Molly.
“Meet Molly Matilda Christie Varcoe. Late like her Mum and tall like her Dad,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time.
She explained the couple’s reasoning behind their choice in name: “Molly ’cause we like it. Matilda for Neil’s Great Grandmother. Christie was my Grandmother’s maiden name and my middle name too.”
Exciting news for Edwina, Neil and Molly now as they prepare to welcome a new family member—a big congratulations!
