From UK spring 2020, the royal couple will no longer be referred to as His or Her Royal Highness but will remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Harry and Meghan will also refund the money used to refurbish their royal residence, Frogmore Cottage, which is thought to have cost British taxpayers around £4.5 million.
The news comes after the Queen held an emergency meeting on Monday to thrash out details of the family’s future, following their decision to “step back” as senior royals.
In a statement from Her Majesty released on January 18, the Queen said that after “many months of conversations and more recent discussions”, the palace has found a “constructive and supoprtive way forward for my grandson and his family”.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family,” the statement continues. “I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.”
The Queen then went on to add that she is “particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family.”
Moving forward, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will “continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty” but will no longer perform royal duties which means skipping official military appointments.
Since announcing plans to split their time between the UK and Canada, Meghan has already been busy carving her post-royal career path.
On January 15, the former actress visited two women’s charities in Vancouver, Downton Eastside Women’s Centre and Justice for Girls, to learn more about the local issues they face.
The Duchess of Sussex has also reportedly signed a voiceover deal with Disney which will benefit wildlife charity Elephants Without Borders.
