The Black Lives Matter Movement, sparked by the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain and countless other Black men and women who have lost their lives at the hands of police brutality, has seen global protests and calls to action start to gain momentum around the world.
Some of Australia’s most influential voices – including Margot Robbie, Miranda Tapsell and Hugh Jackman – have joined forces for the #DoMore Project, a nationwide call to action to become more informed, more educated and more engaged in challenging racism in our country. It will use the stories of Australians of all backgrounds to “challenge existing beliefs and raise awareness of the impact of racism.”
The aim: to understand how we can do more to create an equal future for all.

As Robbie says in a video released to promote the cause, it’s not enough to just not be racist anymore, we need to be anti-racist and we need to be better allies – every day. “[Anti-racist is] not a label, that’s a mindset that we need to practise every day. And every day is an opportunity to do more, every day is an opportunity to put your hand up and be present and hold yourself accountable.”
Tapsell said, “Everyone is starting to see the cracks in structures built across the world.”
The team behind #DoMore has, along with its promotional video, created a range of resources to understand, reflect and act on being better allies. It includes reading material detailing the diversity within First Nations countries to the diversity of our migrant communities, as well as informative guides to both challenge and address biases.
