First it was the pussybow blouse. And now Melania Trump has stepped out in a second outfit loaded with symbolism and significance: a white pantsuit.
Yes, Trump’s wife turned up to an election event to claim victory over Hillary Clinton wearing the very same item of clothing with which Clinton is synonymous.
A coincidence?
The internet doesn’t think so.

The incoming First Lady Melania Trump (now, there’s a sentence we never thought we’d write) took to the stage last night with her husband Donald Trump to officially celebrate his victory, and, for the occasion, she chose a flowing white $4000 Ralph Lauren jumpsuit.
The sartorial statement came after thousands of US women turned up to the polls yesterday wearing – you guessed it – white pantsuits, as a show of support for perennial pantsuit wearer Hilllary Clinton, and as a way to honour the memory of the American suffragettes.
This is the second time Melania Trump’s outfit has come under the microscope. On October 9 – just days after the footage of the infamous pussy-grabbing incident emerged – Melania appeared at the second presidential debate, resplendent in a bright pink Gucci pussybow blouse.
The theories ran rampant: That Melania was trolling her husband; That she was trolling Hillary Clinton, the world; That Melania, who was so contrite in her statement about #TrumpTapes, was using her shirt to send a much more powerful message; That Melania was using fashion as a passive aggressive weapon; That Melania was demanding that she be seen.

Or maybe it meant nothing at all? (Melania’s spokesperson simply said that her choice was “not intentional”.)
But now she’s done it again. And we have so. many. questions.
Our take? Perhaps it was just a coincidence.
But if we have to choose between a First Lady who puts zero thought into her outfits – and the messages they may send – and one who is so shrewd that she is capable of using her clothing to make subtle but searing statements that keep everyone guessing, then we choose the latter every time.
Game. On.
