During a guest appearance on Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk, Moore was joined by two of her daughters, Rumer and Tallulah, for an honest chat with host Jada Pinkett Smith.
In the episode, the actress got candid on her world-famous relationship with Kutcher and how she broke her 20 years of sobriety when the couple started dating.
“The addiction and the co-dependency like my addiction to Ashton – that was probably almost more devastating because it took me seriously away emotionally,” the 56-year-old admitted.
Her youngest daughter Tallulah was just nine-years-old at the time and took the opportunity to speak up on the impact her mother’s relationship had on her growing up – especially after her older sisters moved out.
“Watching the behaviour with Ashton, those years, because everyone had left the house and it was just me living there, I felt very forgotten,” the 25-year-old said.”I feel like I developed and nurtured a narrative where she didn’t love me and I truly believed it. I know that she does, 100 percent but in that moment, you’re hurt.”
When quizzed on why she quit sobriety, Moore replied: “I wanted to be that girl.”
“Ashton said, ‘I don’t know if alcoholism’s a thing. I think it’s about moderation,'” the actress recalled. “If I had stayed close to working my program… I, of course, lived the majority of my adult life sober. I was great sober.”
“I made my own story up, that he wanted somebody that he could have wine with that he could do stuff [with]. He’s not the cause of why I opened that door up,” she continued. “I wanted to be something other than who I am. And I gave my power away.”
But it wasn’t just her youngest daughter who struggled after Moore’s relapse, as Rumer also got candid on her mother’s miscarriage which happened two years into the couple’s marriage.
“So much of that time, especially with Ashton, I was so angry because I felt like something that was mine had been taken away,” she admitted.
