Having now made a full recovery from COVID-19, the celebrity couple are joining the fight against the ongoing pandemic, announcing they will be donating their blood, which now carries antibodies that can help attack the virus, to scientific research for a vaccine.
“A lot of the question is – is what now? What do we do now? Is there something we can do? And, in fact, we just found out that we do carry the antibodies,” the 63-year-old actor said while appearing on NPR’s Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! podcast.
“We have not only been approached, we have said, ‘Do you want our blood? Can we give plasma?’” Hanks continued, adding, “In fact, we will be giving it now to the places that hope to work on what I would like to call the ‘Hank-ccine.’”
According to experts, a vaccine for the new coronavirus is expected to take anywhere between 12-18 months to develop, so, the process is still in its early stages.
Hanks also went on to share how he’s been keeping himself busy while quarantining in the US, looking to the Marie Kondo’s of the world to keep him sane.
“I find that something different has happened about every 20 minutes,” he said. “I’ve done the Marie Kondo-izing of much of my life, I must say.”
