While sitting on Variety’s Cannes Film Festival panel yesterday, Chloë Sevigny revealed that three prominent Hollywood directors have acted inappropriately towards her.
Sevigny – who has built a career on risqué indie films – was once told by a director, “You should show your body off more. You shouldn’t wait until you’re as old as this certain actress who had just been naked in a film, you should be naked on screen now.”
Understandably, Sevigny retorted, “If you know my career, I’ve been naked in every movie.”
Another advance started with, “the ‘what are you doing after this?’ conversation.”
She also said, “I’ve had the ‘do you want to go shopping and try on some clothes and, like, I can buy you something in the dressing room’ [conversation].”
On all 3 occasions, Sevigny did not get the role.
The actress stopped short of labelling these advances sexual harassment. Instead, Sevigny considers it part of Hollywood. “Was it sexual harassment?” she said. “It’s such a fine line.”
