Every minute, 24 people around the world – ordinary mums, dads, families, children – flee their homes and become refugees, a new report has found.
To mark World Refugee Week the United Nations has released a report confirming that there are more refugees in the world than ever before.
At the end of 2015, more than 65 million people were estimated to be displaced from their homes, according to the report.
A group of celebrities, including Cate Blanchett and Margot Robbie, has come together to create a video and launch a petition on behalf of refugees, #WithRefugees.
The petition, created by the United Nations Refugee Agency, will be delivered to the UN headquarters in New York on September 19.
It asks governments to:
Ensure every refugee child gets an education
Ensure every refugee family has somewhere safe to live
Ensure every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution to their community
