Cate Blanchett Joins The Cast Of “Thor: Ragnarok”

And the character she's playing is particularly intriguing...

Marvel just announced the line-up for the third Thor film, Thor: Ragnarok, and let’s just say, it’s all pretty exciting.

While Chris Hemsworth is set to return as Thor (obviously), there’s another major Aussie star who is sure to steal the show.

Cate Blanchett will be joining the cast as Hela, the new villain, and first major female super villain in the Marvel movie franchise. Go Cate! Hela is the Asgardian goddess of death, so definitely not someone you want to mess with.

With roles like the evil stepmother in Cinderella, and Galadriel in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, we’re sure Blanchett is going to make one seriously bad-ass villain.

Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Loki, Idris Elba will return as Heimdall, and Sir Anthony Hopkins will be back as Odin.

Also joining the cast will be Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.

“The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique,” said producer Kevin Feige, “and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet. The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honour, and having all of them is incredible.”

Incredible indeed! We’re already dying to see the third installment!
