For those who don’t know, the memoir deal was signed between Britney and her publisher back in February 2022, and by mid-April 2023, it was announced that she had almost finished writing it.

Given the amount of piping hot tea (read: hot-off-the-press gossip) contained in the novel, rumours have swirled that her headline-making revelations delayed the book’s publication date. Now we have confirmation of when it will hit the shelves.

The name is naturally a link to her 2001 hit song, ‘I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman’, and will be released in spring by Gallery Books (Simon & Schuster). It’s rumoured that the publisher won the rights for a cool $15 million (approx. AUD $22.3 million).

What Will Britney Spears’ Memoir Be About?

The autobiography is expected to cover Britney’s journey through Hollywood, covering the topics of freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith and hope, including her rise from child star to pop sensation, alongside an exploration of what her 13-year court-ordered conservatorship was like behind closed doors.

Spears went to court to fight this conservatorship, which was eventually overturned in November 2021, with the support of the public’s #FreeBritney movement.

Senior vice president and publisher of Gallery Books, Jennifer Bergstrom told People, “Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery. I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact—and will be the publishing event of the year. We couldn’t be more proud to help her share her story at last.”

In her Twitter announcement, Britney also featured the front cover design of the book, featuring a black and white image of Spears in patent silver jeans, and no shirt, covering her upper half by circling her arms around herself in a hug.

Why Was Britney Spears’ Memoir Delayed?

While fans are extremely excited about the release date, it’s been a long time coming. There were widespread rumours of delays due to legal issues with the novel’s content.

According to The Sun the novel’s content was so spicy that “strongly worded legal letters” from people mentioned in the book held up its progress.

A source told the publication, “Britney lived her life in the public eye but there are relationships and people she had encounters with who she managed to keep under the radar, including some massive film star names and people from the music world.

“She has wanted to go all out with this book and tell her truth, and that’s what has people worried.”

It’s safe to say we can’t wait to get our hands on this already cult memoir.
