A bride who had been battling breast cancer for months has passed away just 18 hours after getting married.
Heather Mosher was not expected to live to see her big day, but proved doctors wrong long enough to wed husband David Mosher and take the below snap, which has since gone viral:
“It reminds me of someone who is crossing the finish line of a marathon or something,” said David. “Nobody thought she would’ve made it that far. She proved them all wrong and that’s what that photo says to me.”
Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer on December 23, 2016 – the very day David chose to propose.
“She didn’t know I was going to propose that night, but I said to myself, she needs to know she’s not going to go down this road alone,” David told ABC News.
Fast forward to September 2017, when doctors told Heather and David her cancer had spread and she wasn’t expected to live much longer.
“We found out it was in her brain and a couple months later, she was on life support with a breathing tube,” David said.
Despite the sad news, the couple forged ahead with their wedding plans, and on December 22, the pair wed in Heather’s hospital room, with Heather wearing a wedding dress, wig and jewellery.
Heather’s friend Christina Karas, who took the above photos, said she was reluctant to get her camera out, but felt she had to capture the moment.
‘”As someone who wanted nothing more than to see my friend truly happy, I felt I had to capture these images, which by this point I knew were her final moments with us,” Karas wrote on social media.
“What you clearly see here is two people who were destined to be joined as one. A love like no other captured for all to see. My gift to her.”
