After an absolute killer performance as Ally and Jackson in A Star Is Born, it was hard not to fall in love with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. While we were busy swooning over their onscreen romance, rumours quickly began to swirl that an offscreen romance could be taking place as well.
We’re not sure if Gaga and Bradley knew about the rumours or not, but they certainly added fuel to the already raging fire after their 2019 Oscars performance of Shallow — one of the best known songs from the film.
The whole thing was very emotionally (and sexually) charged, and unsurprisingly, left viewers a little breathless. Are they the best actors in the world or is there something else going on here? We had a lot of questions.
Well, finally, Bradley himself has addressed the potential romance rumours, and we’re all ears. To the dismay of everyone, he’s adamant that it was merely a performance, with their close proximity helping them get into character.
“Just from a personal standpoint, it reduces the anxiety level,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview.
“They kind of fall in love in that scene in the film. It’s that explosive moment that happens to happen to them on a stage in front of thousands of people – It would have been so weird if we were both on stools facing the audience,” he continued.
Despite his claims that the pair are nothing more than good friends, Cooper was full of praise for Gaga, describing her as “terribly charismatic and beautiful.”
“When I met her, I thought ‘if I can just harness that… then it’s just for me to mess up.’ But then, when we started working together, I realised, ‘oh, oh, the sky’s the limit in terms of what she’s able to do and her commitment level’,” he told the publication.
His kind words come as Gaga is busy promoting her latest film, House Of Gucci, which sees her starring alongside Adam Driver as Patrizia Reggiani. In it, she plays Driver’s ex-wife who hired a hitman to kill the Italian businessman who founded the namesake fashion house, Gucci.
As for Cooper, he has been nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Motion Picture of the Year.
