Comedy has a new royal couple thanks to the timely pairing of funny legends Bill Hader and Ali Wong.
Hader’s rep recently confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the duo were official… but this is not the pair’s first time around.
Hader and Wong were rumoured to be dating late last year, but news of the union only broke after the pair split.
Now, they’re back on and going public with their romance.
Bill Hader & Ali Wong’s On-Again, Off-Again Relationship History
Hader and Wong reportedly started dating in the latter half of 2022, shortly after each ended a long-term relationship. (More details on that below!)
On April 18, 2023, Hader’s rep confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the pair were dating again.
In an interview with Collider that same month, Hader referred to “his girlfriend” while casually talking about his next career move.
“My girlfriend and I were just figuring out that I haven’t had a vacation in 10 years,” he confessed. “I went with her to San Francisco, but that doesn’t really count.”
Wong grew up in San Francisco—which also served as the setting for her hit rom-com, Always Be My Maybe—but now calls Los Angeles home. Does this mean Bill has already met the family?
Hader and Wong are both at the top of their professional game, each currently starring in their own TV series.
Bill recently wrapped the final season of his hit HBO series, Barry, for which he’s earned two acting Emmy Awards.
Meanwhile, Ali stars in the new Netflix series, Beef, a dark comedy in which she plays an entrepreneur and wife with a lot of repressed rage.
The question remains: whose show will reign supreme next awards season?
Ali Wong Relationship History
Ali Wong, 41, was married for eight years to entrepreneur Justin Hakuta. The pair met at a friend’s wedding in 2010 and were married in 2014. They finalised their divorce in April 2022, but remain friends.
Wong and Hakuta have two daughters: Mari, 7, and Nikki, 5.
Bill Hader Relationship History
Prior to dating Wong, Hader, 44, was in a relationship with Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick since 2020. The actors met in 2019 while filming a Christmas film (Noelle) in which they played brother and sister. Anna and Bill split in June, 2022 after more than two years of dating.
Hader also previously dated The OC star Rachel Bilson between 2019 and 2020. The pair met in 2018 while filming The To-Do List, a film directed by Hader’s then-wife. They reportedly broke up via the phone during the pandemic and Bilson later described the split as “harder than childbirth”.
Prior to that, Hader was married to writer and director Maggie Carey for nearly 12 years. The two married in 2006 and finalised their divorce in 2018. Hader and Carey share three daughters: Hannah, 13, Harper, 10, and Hayley, 8.
