Best Actor Winner Casey Affleck Breaks Silence On Sexual Assault Allegations

The actor has finally spoken out.

Casey Affleck has addressed the controversy surrounding his Best Actor Oscar for Manchester By The Sea, which has been a contentious win following his 2010 sexual assault allegations.

Speaking to the Boston Globe, Affleck said: “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”

“There’s really nothing I can do about it, other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”

The alleged incidents of assault occured in 2010 during the filming of I’m Still Here, which Affleck co-directed with Joaquin Phoenix in late 2008 and early 2009. At the time he was married to Joaquin sister, Summer Phoenix.

The charges were made by the the producer and cinematographer of I’m Still Here, while Casey denied any wrongdoing, he settled both claims later that same year but no details of any financial settlement have been released. According to reports it is estimated he paid each woman $2.6 million.
