Bella Hadid has gained worldwide notoriety in the last few years. Yes, for her beautiful face, style and impressive modelling portfolio – but also for her acute social media presence.
Bella, alongside sister Gigi Hadid, and other models Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin, are redefining the millennial ‘supermodel’ persona, garnering millions of followers on their social media channels.
Bella, however, says she dislikes this entitled reputation.
“I’m not saying I don’t love my job, but people think modeling is a bulls*** thing to become more famous,” she says to InStyle magazine.
“I was 100 percent independent by the time I was 18, and I paid for my own apartment. That wasn’t because of my parents. I worked my a** off for two years.”
She also dislikes the online trolls and hate she receives, simply for being herself.
“Imagine that somebody is telling you that you’re a piece of s*** every day on social media. You kind of feel like, “Well, am I a piece of sh**?” You don’t really know.”
It really bothers me when “people will judge me for things I can’t change.”
“I promise, I’m a nice person! We could be friends! It doesn’t have to be like this!” she says.
As for her relationship with fellow supermodel Kendall Jenner, she insists this is nothing new. The two met over Twitter, and have been best friends for seven years.
“I met her for the first time seven years ago over Twitter. That was before we started modelling. I was probably 14 or 15. We met up and had sushi, and now we’re best friends. She’s a pretty significant human I met online.”
You can say that again.
And while modelling is definitely her focus right now, Bella is setting her sights on a new type of stardom.
“People think that I don’t smile and I’m super cold…With acting you can show more of who you are,” Hadid shared. She’s dabbled in acting for ex-boyfriend The Weeknd‘s “In the Night” music video, but Bella revealed one hurdle she’ll have to get over before initiating a film and TV career.
“I would have to get a hold of my ADD, but otherwise I think it would be fun.”
Hadid never had big dreams of becoming a model, unlike sister Gigi, and was on course to be a professional equestrian heading for the Olympics before being sidelined by a bout of Lyme Disease.
Her mum, and former ‘Real Housewives Of Beverley Hills’ star Yolanda Hadid, suffers from the disease, as does her brother Anwar.
Yolanda took to Instagram to web this emotional post reading: “2015-Watching my brave babies suffer in silence in order to support me in my journey has struck the deepest core of hopelessness inside of me, it is because of them that I continue to fight relentlessly……. I will not allow them to live a life of pain and suffering……. I will prevail and walk to the end of the earth to find a cure for them and millions of others debilitated by this invisible disease!!!! We all deserve to live a healthy life, don’t you think?”
Bella reveals she now takes 30 pills a day and two shots to get through the day.
“When I was 16, 17 I went out and did the whole thing … Now I feel like a grandma. I’ll go out occasionally, but I’d rather go to work and have 100 per cent energy, because I barely have enough to get through the day as it is.”
