This online shopping boom is excellent for retailers but is placing huge pressure on Australia Post’s delivery network which is now delivering around 1.8 million parcels a day.

Online department store purchases have increased by a staggering 473 per cent while fashion purchases have tripled and are up by 203 per cent.
Compounding the problem is reduced air freight capacity due to restrictions on domestic flights, along with the implementation of extra health and safety measures to protect both Australia Post staff and customers, says Australia Post.
To counter the problem, Australia Post is retraining 2,000 motorbike posties to deliver and process parcels to help manage the unprecedented parcel volumes being sent during the pandemic.
The message? Be patient, your package is coming!
