The Australian Fashion Foundation Announces Its 2020 Scholarship Winners

Keep your eye on these up and coming designers

For 10 years, the Australian Fashion Foundation has been championing emerging talent in the industry – offering two students a six-month internship at a global fashion company in the US, as well as a USD$20,000 cash prize. The annual scholarship award night, presented by Bird in Hand and the American Australian Association, was held on Tuesday night at the Ivy Sunroom.

The 2019 finalists were: Caitlin Mullaly, Danielle Herbert, Domenic Roylance, Eliska Marczan, Geordie Tancheff, Jordyn Smith, Katarina Kristo, Kim Clark, Lucinda Connelley and Mei Zhang. The selected ten were graduates of the University of Technology, Sydney and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne. The winners of the 2019 AUSFF Scholarship Awards were Domenic Roylance and Kim Clark.

Artist, Louise Olsen, Co–Founder of Dinosaur Designs created and donated the bespoke award trophies to mark the 10th anniversary which were presented to the recipients by Australian model, Victoria Lee.

Launched in 2009 by Malcolm Carfrae and fellow New York-based Australian Julie Anne Quay, the founder of VFiles, the foundation has helped over 20 Australian fashion designers and creatives gain valuable international experience via internships with brands such as Narcisco Rodriguez, Proenza Schouler, Louis Vuitton, Thom Browne, Alexander McQueen, Diane von Furstenberg and Calvin Klein.

Past recipient Alexander Oscar Kelvy was offered a full-time job at Louis Vuitton in Paris and Georgia Lazzaro was offered a full-time role at Calvin Klein following their internships. The 2018 winners of the award are currently serving their award internships at WARDROBE.NYC and Dion Lee in New York.
