American actress and ‘London Fields’ leading actor Amber Heard, who recently battled her ex-husband Johnny Depp in the courts, is set to reappear in court this month in a new legal battle.
The actor is being sued by producers of her upcoming crime thriller ‘London Fields’, over allegedly conspiring with director Michael Cullen to remove some sex scenes from the final edit of the film.
Producers of the film, which is based on Martin Amis’ 1989 novel of the same name, filed a 24-page complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, alleging that Heard had refused to “comply with her contractual obligations”.
According to The Telegraph, the lawsuit states that Heard “understood the nature of the role … and the tenor of the screenplay, which was salacious, provocative, and contained nude scenes,” and accuses the actress of “failing to render acting services in conformance with the shooting script.”
The case is the latest in a series of legal disputes surrounding ‘London Fields’, as the co-accused director Michael Cullen previously sued producers Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner over fraud allegations. Hanley and Gertner went on to counter-sue Cullen, accusing him of breaching his contract and running almost $5 million over his $8 million budget.
As a result of these pending legal matters, the film’s premiere at Toronto Film Festival was cancelled, and the few critics who had the opportunity to view the film have delivered scornful reviews.
The film stars Amber Heard as Nicola Six, a seductress who entices a series of men in a love affair to bring about her own murder.
Heard is joined by co-star Billy Bob Thornton, whose relationship with Heard was brought into the spotlight earlier this year when Johnny Depp accused the pair of having an affair. Depp reportedly scribbled Thornton’s name on a mirror in his own blood during a domestic dispute between himself and Heard that is said to have instigated the couple’s divorce.
Legal representatives for Heard have yet to comment on the impending lawsuit. The film is due for release in Australia in early 2017.
