Alexis Arquette’s Official Cause of Death Revealed

The actress had lived with HIV for 29 years

Transgender star Alexis Arquette had been living with HIV for 29 years before dying of cardiac arrest on September 11, it has been revealed.

According to her death certificate obtained by People, the 47-year-old contracted a bacterial infection of the heart three weeks before her death.

Three years earlier she had been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, all related to HIV.

The actress, who starred in movies including Pulp Fiction and The Wedding Singer, was surrounded by friends and family and listened to David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ as she passed away.

Her famous siblings, including Patricia, Rosanna and David Arquette were all by her side.

Brother Richmond confirmed the sad news via Facebook, writing:

“Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, passed this morning September 11, at 12:23am,” he wrote.

“He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, one of his nieces and several other loves ones. We were playing music for him and he passed during David Bowie’s ‘Starman.’

“As per his wishes, we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension.”

No official cause of death has been revealed however several news sources are reporting that Arquette had been battling an illness.

Arquette, who was born a male, transitioned to female in 2006, which was the subject of a documentary titled Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother
