Johnny was with French actress Vanessa Paradis from 1998 – 2012 and while the pair never married they did have two children together, Lily-Rose and Jack.

Johnny briefly dated actress Ellen Barkin in 1998 who was nine years his senior and going through a separated from her then-husband Gabriel Byrne at the time.
