A 6-year-old boy has drowned after being found unconscious in a backyard pool in Sydney’s south-west.
Paramedics were called to the home in Raby just before 5:30pm on Sunday where they performed CPR before the boy was rushed to Westmead Children’s Hospital. Doctors were unable to revive him and he died a short time later.
Police are investigating the circumstances around the incident, and are urging people to ensure their backyard pool’s comply with safety laws.
“As a father and grandfather I encourage everyone to check and double-check their fences and gates to make sure everything complies to safety standards”, Chief Inspector of Macquarie Fields Local Area Command, Dean Smith told SMH.
“It takes 10 minutes to check your fencing and gates and those minutes could help prevent another tragedy like this from happening again”.
