Instead Of ‘Sex And The City’, Kim Cattrall Found Another Reboot To Star In

Samantha Jones lives on... in other ways.

When one thinks of Kim Cattrall, it’d be difficult not to immediately reference the infamous catchphrase of Sex and the City‘s resident PR maven, Samantha Jones: “Oh honey, no.”

And in fact, it was that very line (albeit, likely said a little more politely) the actor told the producers when she was given the opportunity to reprise her role for the iconic television series’ reboot, And Just Like That.

Indeed, in January 2021, Cattrall’s former co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis all shared a teaser for the revival—but there was radio silence from the now 65-year-old actor.

Shortly afterwards, Cattrall subtly confirmed she wasn’t returning by ‘liking’ a Tweet from a fan which read: “I absolutely love Sex and the City and whilst I am saddened that Samantha will not return, I applaud doing what is best for you and think this is [a] great example of putting yourself first. Well done @KimCattral.”

Of course, the reboot won’t be the same without Samantha’s wit, fearlessness and grit—but you might be pleased to know that the woman behind the character is doing very well right where she is.

What is Kim Cattrall doing now?

As her Sex and the City co-stars head back to the small screen for the show’s revival, Kim Cattrall has scored a role on another reboot—How I Met Your Father.

The actor joined the cast (including Hilary Duff, might we add) for the spinoff of the sitcom that ruled screens for nine seasons.

While details about the reboot are minimal, Deadline confirmed Cattrall will play an older version of the show’s main character Sophie, who narrates each episode with stories about how she met the father of her young children. The younger version of Sophie will be played by Duff.

The show is set to drop on Hulu in the US (TBC which streaming platform will take it in Australia!) on January 8, 2021.

What other projects has Kim Cattrall worked on?

Leaning into her uncanny ability to play the sassy, well-off powerhouse, Cattrall joined the cast of Filthy Rich in 2020, taking on the lead role as Margaret Monreaux, the star of a hugely popular lifestyle TV show and the creator of a conservative TV network.

Between 2014 and 2016 Cattrall also starred in another HBO series Sensitive Skin, as well as 2018’s Tell Me A Story.

She’s also proved to be quite the talent behind the camera—the 64-year-old was an executive producer on all three series.

What happened between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker?

The former co-star’s rumoured feud has been splashed across news sites for several years now, and while the real story of what went on will likely never be known, there are a few surprising snippets that’ve come out.

It all started when Cattrall told the Daily Mail in 2017 that she would “never” do a third Sex and the City film (the second film was released in 2010).

“You learn lessons in life, and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun,” she said at the time.

Of course, fans speculated this was in reference to a feud between Parker and Cattrall, but Parker had her own version of events (or lack thereof): “I don’t know what [Cattrall’s] issue is, I never have,” she said in a 2017 interview.

In 2018, Cattrall’s younger brother passed away—Parker sent her a heartfelt message via social media: “Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx,” she wrote.

Cattrall later responded with a scathing message to Parker: “Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now,” Cattrall shared on Instagram.

“Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend.”

Parker addressed the surprising comments in an interview with Vulture: “I also want to remind everybody that there were four women on the set and I spent equal time with all of them, so this was not a set with two women who didn’t get along.

“I’ve always held Kim’s work in high regard and [was] always appreciative of her contributions.”

Now that the reboot of Sex and the City is going ahead, it seems both women are at peace with their decisions for the show—and there’s no denying both are very talented actors.

Bring on And Just Like That and How I Met Your Father, we say…
