Australian hairstylist and haircare brand founder Kevin Murphy is nothing short of legendary in the beauty world. To say the man knows a thing or two about achieving excellent hair would be a total understatement. Now, in our exclusive interview, Kevin has shared his number one piece of advice for achieving your best locks yet…
“Leave-in conditioner. Everyone should have one,” shares Kevin.
“Purely because the hair doesn’t really absorb moisture as the skin does. You can change your skin really easily by drinking water and changing your diet – but your hair doesn’t work like that.”
“Because hair grows from the scalp, the further it grows, the more dead it is – there are no blood vessels in there. As it continues to grow, it loses moisture. A leave-in conditioner will seal up the cuticle and help your hair to hold onto as much moisture as it can.”
However, Kevin is careful to note that leave-in conditioners are not a ‘one size fits all’ solution – you will need to spend a little time testing products to find the one that works best for your own hair.
So, how do you choose the right one?
“You want moisture but not too much moisture. It’s about getting the right balance and there’s no magic book on that one. It’s simply trial and error and finding out what works for you,” explains Kevin.
