How Kate Middleton’s Fashion Awards Outfit Showcased A Rising Talent

The Duchess stood in for Queen Elizabeth to present a prestigious award.

While there’s no question that Kate Middleton has all the trappings of a future queen, plus a fabulous regal wardrobe to boot, it seems that the Duchess’ latest public appearance is cementing her status as a prominent figure in the royal family.

It’s obvious her prowess in the style department is coming in handy as she attended London’s Design Museum to deliver this year’s Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to young upstart Saul Nash.

The award, which recognises an emerging British fashion designer with exceptional talent, originality and value to the community, is a coveted accolade that only a handful of designers have received since its inauguration in 2018.

This year, the stylish Duchess followed in the footsteps of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne and Sophie, Countess of Wessex as one of the Queen’s close relatives to hand out the award in her name.

Arriving in style, Kate donned a green A-line dress by London-based British-Canadian designer Edeline Lee.

It’s the first time Kate has worn a design by the Central Saint Martins graduate, however based on the response this high-neck jacquard creation received, we have no doubts it won’t be the last.

For the occasion, Kate greeted members of the British Fashion Council before commencing the ceremony, which included a showcase of talent-support initiatives helmed by the BFC Foundation.

The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design is the second distinguished honour that the 29-year-old rising star has received this year.

Nash also took home the 2022 International Woolmark Prize for his use of innovative materials, distinct constructions and his contemporary bridging of active solutions and formal requirements.

Nash joins Richard Quinn, Priya Ahluwalia, Bethany Williams and Rosh Mahtani of Alighieri as one of five winners of the award.

Given that the ceremony was Kate’s first real foray into the world of fashion, her penchant for design is seen during her royal appearances rather than sitting front row during London Fashion Week or on the red carpet, here’s hoping that the Duchess will continue to grace the fashion community with her presence.
