Jonah Hillโs ex, Sarah Brady, is shedding light on a very specific type of toxic behaviour in relationships. Brady, a semi-pro surfer and law student, shared a series of text screenshots on social media, allegedly from her famous former partner.
As many folks have pointed out, these arenโt โboundariesโ at all. So, whatโs the issue here? Allow us to explainโฆ

Who Is Jonah Hillโs Ex, Sarah Brady?
First, a bit of background on the relationship.
Sarah Brady, 26, is a surfer who dated actor Jonah Hill some time around 2022. The pair confirmed their relationship on social media in October 2021, and later attended Hillโs Donโt Look Up premiere together in December that same year.
While never publicly announcing their split, Us Weekly alleges they broke up before some time before Hill went public with current girlfriend, Olivia Millar, in August 2022. PEOPLE reports the pair welcomed their first child in May 2023.
What Did The Texts Between Jonah Hill & Sarah Brady Say?
In July 2023, Brady posted a series of screenshots of text messages that appear to be between herself and Hill. She began the string of Instagram stories by stating: โThis is a warning to all girls. If your partner is talking to you like this, make an exit plan.โ
The screenshot then appears to show Hill requesting Brady remove certain images from her social media. Bradyโs reply confirms that she removed โthreeโ, but wanted to keep one because it was her โbest surfing videoโ.
She then offers to change the cover image of the video [the photo that appears as the still image] if that would make him feel better, to which he responds: โYes, one that isnโt of your ass in a thongโ.

In further messages, Hill allegedly suggested his then-girlfriend stop โsurfing with menโ and stop modelling as it violated his boundaries.
One of the most explosive texts shared by Brady shows Hillโs full list of demands:
โIf you need:
- Surfing with men
- Boundaryless [sic] inappropriate friendships with men
- to model
- to post pictures of yourself in a bathing suit
- to post sexual pictures
- friendships with women who are in unstable places and from your wild recent past beyond getting a lunch or coffee or something respectful
I am not the right partner for you. If these things bring you to a place of happiness I support it and there will be no hard feelings. These are my boundaries for romantic partnership.โ
This is then followed with a text clarifying that these boundaries are โbased on the ways these actions have hurt our trustโ.
Brady posted separate screenshots of texts from Hill seemingly furthering his request for her to stop modelling, saying it is the โlast profession I would be with as a partnerโ.
Brady responds: โWell maybe you shouldโve asked me more about what I do for work before you decided to date me then.โ

Other texts allegedly show Hill urging Brady to โstep up and cut s**tโ, adding โThese people donโt get your time or your kindness at the sacrifice of mines [sic].โ Brady suggests that โby โthese peopleโ he meant any friend of mine that he hadnโt personally approved ofโ.

What Is Wrong With Jonah Hillโs Texts?
While Hill has an alarming number of supporters, as Sarah claims, Hill โmisusedโ therapy language in what came across as an attempt to control his partner.
As American counsellor Jeff Guenther, known online as โTherapyJeffโ, detailed on TikTok: โItโs important we go over this misuse in therapy languageโฆ and how it can be super problematic as it masks controlling behaviour under a commonly accepted positive concept, in this case โboundariesโ, making it harder for the person on the receiving end (Sarah) to challenge it.โ
โA boundary is a healthy limit a person sets for themselves to protect their wellbeing and integrity,โ Jeff continues in a video which has racked-up over 450k views and counting.
A number of social media users have taken issue with Hillโs supposed argument, pointing out that setting boundaries doesnโt involve setting rules for others.
Hill, who tracked his journey with his therapist in the Netflix documentary Stutz, has not responded to the incident.
