Just when we thought it wasn’t possible to love Jennifer Coolidge more, she goes and does this. The White Lotus actor took home the award for Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series at the Emmys this evening, promptly giving cause for her worldwide legion of fans to celebrate. But it wasn’t the win that was the biggest thrill per say, rather, it was her acceptance speech that truly sealed the deal.
After embracing her White Lotus castmates in celebration, Coolidge stepped up to the stage to give her acceptance speech.
“Hey, hi. Wow, thank you. Gosh. What a night,” she began.
“I just want to say to my fellow nominees, just to be in your company, it’s incredible.”
Appearing to notice that she had little to no time left to fit in all of her thank you’s, Coolidge pulled out a crumpled piece of paper with shaking hands as she began to read a list of names. As she did so, the infamous music began to swell—a universal signal to remind awardees to wrap it up.
But ever the icon, Coolidge simply wasn’t done. Remarking at the significance of this moment, she chose to stand on the stage and dance before the microphone. Truly, the power moves were coming in droves.
Of course, Twitter virtually exploded with viewers commending the actor for her hilarious resilience.
“Jennifer Coolidge deciding to dance when the #Emmys attempted to play her off is a truly perfect moment,” wrote one.
“We certainly don’t deserve Jennifer Coolidge,” another remarked.
Made famous for her roles in American Pie and Legally Blonde, Coolidge has become somewhat of a 2000s icon over the years, so it was a huge moment to see her return to the screen in 2021’s The White Lotus, where she played a kooky socialite preparing to scatter the ashes of her late mother.
Coolidge’s character was so popular that producers asked her to sign on for the unprecedented second season (the show was originally marketed as a limited series).
“I didn’t like the way I looked,” Coolidge told Variety of her appearance in season one. “…But did I change it for The White Lotus 2? No! I didn’t change anything!”
