The Friends star, whose high profile relationships include Brad Pitt, Justin Theroux and Vince Vaughn, believes her parent’s relationship dynamic is the reason for her own relationship struggles

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Aniston says that she has always found relationships a “little bit difficult.”

“I think, because I really was kind of alone. I don’t know. My parents, watching my family’s relationship, didn’t make me kind of go, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to do that’.”

Aniston elaborated by explaining a little more about her parents, Nancy Dow and John Aniston’s, dynamic.

“I didn’t like the idea of sacrificing who you were or what you needed, so I didn’t really know how to do that. So it was almost easier to just be kind of solo. So I didn’t have any real training in that give-and-take,” she continued.

Aniston got married to Brad Pitt in 2000 before the couple got divorced in 2005. She then dated a number of other high profile celebrities, including Vince Vaughn and John Mayer, before marrying Justin Theroux in 2016. Unfortunately, the couple split two and a half years later.

Aniston’s parents also divorced while Aniston was still a child, and the 54-year-old has previously described her childhood home as destabilized.

In a 2020 interview with Interview Magazine, Aniston revealed that her resilience comes from that experience.

“I guess I have my parents to thank for that. You can be angry or a martyr, or you can say, ‘You’ve got lemons? Let’s create some lemonade’.”

Aniston isn’t cynical about future relationships but admits that she’s working on not sacrificing herself for someone else.

“It’s just about not being afraid to say what you need and what you want. And it’s still a challenge for me in a relationship. I’m really good at every other job I have, and that’s sort of the one area that’s a little….” she said.

We’re hoping Aniston has plenty of future happiness to come, whether she finds that being single or with someone else.
