Sometimes it’s the undone textured hairstyles that are the trickiest to master. Thankfully, we were lucky enough to sit down with Jen Atkin founder of Ouai hair care and ambassador for slip silk while she was in Australia. As the celebrity hairstylist in charge of the manes of Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Chrissy Teigen, we paid close attention when she revealed her top seven favourite no-fuss hairstyle tips for when you’re on-the-go.
Your best tips on how to get cool texture?
My best tips for getting really cool girl texture is using the Ouai Wave Spray and the using Dyson Supersonic™ with the diffuser.
Your best tips to keeping your blow-dry looking good for longer?
My number one tip for making your blow-dry last longer is silk. You guys switch to a Slipsilk™ pillowcase, I’m telling you. It doesn’t dry your hair out – cotton takes all of the moisture out – and silk makes your hair last for days and days.
And if you’ve had a blowout, tie your hair in a topknot with a Slipsilk™ scrunchie and it will last forever.
Do you have any tips for changing up a hairstyle from day to night?
My tip for going from day to night hair – I actually just did it this afternoon. I had my hair in a bun, I take the Dyson Airwrap™ styler Complete with the firm brush and it literally took three minutes to get my hair nice and smooth and get rid of all flyaways.
What is one hair trend you wish would go away?
One trend I’m kind of over is oversize hair clips, they are just everywhere – or maybe just in my feed – and I’m a little sick of it.

What is one hair trend you wish would come back?
One trend that I wish would come back is Patti Hansen bangs, I also really love Stephanie Seymor from the nineties bangs and I love Jane Birkin bangs.
When you travel, what are your must-pack beauty items?
My must-have travel products would be Ouai Scalp & Body Scrub and Kylie Cosmetics Pencil in Dark Brown because I look crazy without my brows on and the Slipsilk™ sleep mask.
What is the best piece of advice that you ever received?
The best piece of advice, don’t be jealous of your peers be inspired by them. Chelsea Handler talks about how we need to really route for ourselves and promote ourselves the way we would our sisters or our girlfriends.
