Jane Lynch just let it slip that she has a new show in the works, and it’s basically a modern-day Golden Girls.
When speaking to press backstage after winning a Creative Arts Emmy for Guest Actress in a Comedy for her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Jane hinted at her next project. Actually, she got pretty loose-lipped about it!
“I pitched a show to Netflix and they bought it,” she said. “I don’t know if I can even tell you, but it’s with Cyndi Lauper, so there! We’ll see.”
She went on to say, “We’re our age, I’m almost 60 and she’s 65, and we’re looking for our next act, without ever having had husbands or children. And there will be two other people who haven’t been cast yet. But it’s kind of a Golden Girls for today.”
While the other leading roles are yet to be determined, we have an inkling of who may be co-writing the script with Jane. Comedian and seasoned TV writer Carol Leifer, who has worked on Seinfeld and The Ellen Show, took to social media earlier this year she with this announcement: “It’s official, heading out next with a new half-hour comedy, starring Jane Lynch and Cyndi Lauper. A writer’s dream to work with these two legends. Can’t wait to see where we land.”
Now that surely can’t be a coincidence, can it?!
