Dame Helen Mirren stunned in a hot pink ensemble at the Ora! Film festival in Monopoli, Italy.
The esteemed actress, 77, was the latest celebrity to take on the Barbiecore trend, turning heads in a fuschia maxi dress embellished with large silver sequins. The dress also featured flared sleeves, and a waist-cinching pink beaded belt.
Mirren accessorised the striking look with a matching pink headband, and silver sandals.
The look seemingly paid homage to the actress’ upcoming appearance in the Barbie film, which is slated as one of the biggest releases of 2023.
Fans of the franchise were surprised when the film’s trailer first dropped, to hear Mirren lending her distinct voice as narrator. She’s one of many big stars to appear in the upcoming movie, including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, Will Ferrell, and Michael Cera.
As well as striking a pose on the red carpet, Helen also stood for pictures holding a sign that read ‘Save The Olives’ – a reference to a non-profit organisation tackling the Xylella Fastidiosa epidemic that is affecting hundreds of thousands of olive trees in Apulia, southern Italy.
According to the UK Telegraph, the British actress has a second home in the region, and has thrown her acclaim behind the cause several times in the past.
“We need to help the Salento to save its ancient olive trees. They are plants which have an extraordinary value for agriculture and for the landscape. Some of them are more than 2,000 years old, and now they are dying,” the actress told Ansa, Italy’s national news agency, back in 2017.
Helen’s pink look is the second colourful monochromatic moment the actress has donned in recent weeks.
In May 2023, she took to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in a powder blue — an apparent nod to another huge trend in the fashionable zeitgeist at the moment: mermaidcore.
The head-to-toe blue look featured a stunning gown by Italian fashion house Del Core, with the actress also trading her signature silver locks for a matching powder blue shade.
