The Harry Potter reunion is dropping on BINGE in two short days, and ever muggle on earth is counting down the hours. Obviously, the whole ordeal has us feeling pretty nostalgic, so it makes sense that we’re unearthing new on set secrets to tide us over until it hits our screens.
Luckily, the cast are over-delivering right now, sharing some very juicy tidbits that are sending the internet into a spin. Yes, we’re talking about their co-star crushes, with both Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe revealing the cast members they found themselves infatuated with during filming — and let’s just say they’re a little surprising.
As it turns out, Daniel had a very (very) big crush on co-star Helena Bonham Carter, who played Voldemort’s biggest fan, Bellatrix Lestrange. In fact, his love for her was so overwhelming that he wrote her a note to confess his feelings in 2011 when the franchise had officially wrapped in 2011.
Reading his love letter aloud during the reunion, he said:
“Dear HBC, it was a pleasure being your co-star and coaster in the fact I always ended up holding your coffee. I do love you and I wish I’d just been born 10 years earlier so I might’ve been in with a chance.”
“I walked into the room where we were having tutoring. The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought God looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard,” she recalled.
“And I just don’t know how to say it – I just fell in love with him. I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day.”
The pair have remained famously close over the years, even sparking dating rumours while on a beach vacation in 2019. While we can all certainly dream, the two have always maintained that they have a strong friendship.
“I became very protective over her. Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day. There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship,” Tom said, during the reunion.
Emma also credits Tom as being a huge support system for her throughout the series, saying:
“Tom was the one I could be more vulnerable with. Nothing has ever happened romantically with us. We just love each other and that’s all I can say.”
When you think about it, the rampant love affairs aren’t that surprising, given most of the cast members spent their formative teenage years making the films.
Actor Matthew Lewis (who played Neville Longbottom), said, “There were endless crushes, people were going out with each other, breaking up.”
Daniel Radcliffe quickly added that, “We were all hormonal teenagers, so when in (fourth Harry Potter film) The Goblet Of Fire they brought in a whole bunch of new people for the Triwizard Tournament who were purposefully hot, well … ”
Is he talking about Robert Pattinson? Quite possibly. Either way, we’re here for this piping hot tea and off-screen love affairs. After all, love is the best kind of magic, right?
