Back the ’90s it was terribly uncool to use – or at least admit to using – mousse.
Blame it on big-haired ’80s icons like Joan Collins, but for several decades mousse had a reputation as a product that left hair stiff and crunchy.
But, just like the original supermodels and Levi’s 501 jeans, mousse is back.

Today’s mousse formulas have been completely upgraded. The stiffness we all hated in the ’90s has been replaced with flexible, light-as-air formulas that condition and add volume to fine hair, bounce to limp hair, and smoothness for everyone.
Hot tip: backstage and on the red carpet, stylists use mousse as the base for pretty much every single hairstyle – up, down, wavy, straight, and everything in between. And if that doesn’t convince you, Karlie Kloss recently admitted that she’s loves mousse.
Ready to give mousse another whirl? Look for one without alcohol (which, along with simply using too much product, was a reason for the crunchies) and deploy sparingly.
Start with a single pump in the palm of your hands, coat damp hair from roots to ends, scrunch, and then air-dry, use a diffuser or a blow-dryer.
