Ever since we found out who Gossip Girl was, there’s been a Blair Waldorf-shaped, Chanel-clad hole in our lives. Until now: the show’s network, CW, has revealed plans for a new show focusing on the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite, written by Gossip Girl writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. It’s called Dynasty, and it follows the lives of two of America’s wealthiest families, the Van der Woodsens and Basses Carringtons and Colbys.
But wasn’t Dynasty a show our parents watched in the ‘80s, we hear you ask? Well, yes. But hear us out – the Dynasty of old was basically the world’s first Gossip Girl (but with bigger hair, and set in Denver), and now the writers of the Upper East Side series we know and love are rehashing the script for a modern audience.
The new show hinges on Fallon Carrington, a glamorous twenty-something who is “charismatic, cunning, and poised to become the new COO of her father’s global energy empire – or so she thinks,” according to Netflix’s summary. “When her father, Blake Carrington, summons Fallon and her brother, Steven, home in Atlanta, Fallon is horrified to learn that the reunion isn’t to announce her promotion – but rather to make the acquaintance of their stepmother-to-be, Cristal.”
Cue: tension! Drama! Fallon ripping Cristal’s wedding dress off!
Judging by the above trailer, this is exactly the kind of show a lazy weekend (with wine) was made for. We. Cannot. Wait. And we don’t have to (much): Dynasty launches on Netflix on October 12.
