The Golden Globe winners are always our first glimpse at who we can expect to win big at the Oscars in February and this year. From Margot Robbie getting a Best Supporting Actress nod for her role in Bombshell – her second Golden Globe nomination ever – to everyone’s favourite woman Jennifer Aniston topping off her best year yet with a nod for her portrayal of a news anchor in The Morning Show (yes, her co-star Reese Witherspoon naturally got one too), to Meryl Streep beating her own record for the most Golden Globe nominations ever at 34.
Of course, there were some notable snubs: Zendaya and Euphoria were missing from the list, despite the show being one of the most talked-about of the year and, as usual, no women directors were nominated in the Best Director category, despite Natalie Portman loudly declaring “here are the all-male nominees” at the 2018 Golden Globes and women-directed films, such as Hustlers, Booksmart and Little Women, being nominated in other categories. Hello, can anybody hear us?!
