Three months after supermodel Gisele Bündchen and American football player Tom Brady finalised their divorce, it seems that the seven-time Super Bowl champion is finally ready to head his ex-wife’s advice about stepping back from the game.
In what is undoubtedly a surprise move from the New England Patriots alumni, Brady took to social media to share a video announcing he was finally retiring from the sport.
However, despite their “painful and difficult” divorce (as Brady described their separation at the time of their break up announcement) it seems that the former couple are remaining amicable—at least on social media.
Taking to the comment section of Brady’s post, Bündchen shared her support for her former husband by wishing “wonderful things” for him in his next endeavour.
“Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life,” she wrote.
Brady did not publicly reply, but thanked his family in his Instagram caption and included several images of Gisele and his three children supporting him on the field in his carousel.
The timing of the announcement, however, can not be overlooked.
Given that Brady shared the news of his second retirement mere months after their divorce was finalised, fans are speculating that his un-retirement in 2022 was a leading cause to the breakdown of his marriage.
“[Gisele] didn’t feel like I was doing my part for the family,” Brady told Howard Stern on air in 2020.
“She felt like I would play football all season and she would take care of the house, and then all of a sudden when the season ended, I’d be like, ‘Great, let me get into all of my other business activities. Let me get into my football training,’ and she’s sitting there going, ‘Well when are you going to do things for the house? When are you going to take the kids to school and do that?'”
Bündchen also remarked to ELLE in 2022 that she had “concerns” over Brady continuing to play football.
“This is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present. I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again.”
Bündchen and Brady eventually announced their divorce in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage. The couple share two children, Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, 9, along with raising Brady’s 15-year-old son John, whom he shares with actress, Bridget Moynahan.
There’s no telling if a reunion is on the cards considering Brady has once again stepped back from the game, but either way his presence on the field will certainly be noticed by fans.
