Whatever you think of bridesmaid style (mismatched or same-same? Clones or no?), you have to admit there are a few unspoken guidelines to adhere to if allowed to choose your own dress.

Number one: don’t upstage the bride. Number two: wear an actual dress.

But Mary-Kate Olsen pays no heed to such protocol. She and twin sister Ashley were part of an 18-strong bridal party on the weekend, and while it looks like Ashley did her best to blend in (albeit in a puffy-sleeved embroidered number), Mary-Kate looks hell bent on standing out. And standing apart:

Her kimono-esque look is a far cry from traditional bridesmaids’ attire, as is the attention-grabbing bejewelled headpiece-meets-avant-garde-flower-crown situation. Also: is she the only one wearing her hair up?

Of course, a wedding is no reason to forgo your sense of style, and we’re all for celebrating individuality (we would kill for those emerald green Balenciaga mules). And it looks like Mary-Kate did at least meet the ‘just wear something floral’ theme. We just have a feeling it wasn’t quite what the bride had in mind…
