With Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia just around the corner, we asked the buyers from your favourite international shopping destinations about what they’ll be wearing to sit front row and the brands on their radar.
Lisa Aiken, retail fashion director at Net-A-Porter
What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?
“Reworked shirting as it’s so versatile; it instantly updates an outfit and the styling options are endless. My favourite way to wear it at the moment is with high-waisted vintage denim and layered over a polo neck top.”
Which shoes wouldn’t you leave home without?
“My current shoe obsession would be slides; they work as a slipper but feel more dressed up for daytime compared to a sport slide which we’ve seen around for a while. My favourite styles include Nicholas Kirkwood’s white textured leather slippers, Balenciaga’s red leather slide and Brother Vellie’s soft denim slippers.”
Which designer are you most excited to see?
“Georgia Alice. She showcased her first runway show last year at MBFWA and we picked up the brand straight away. [It has been] great to introduce an emerging brand from New Zealand to our global audience.”
Chelsea Perzov, contemporary RTW & swim buyer at Moda Operandi
What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?
“I’m loving the silk robe trend. It’s perfect for the transition months when the weather’s a bit moody. I think there is an inherent ‘cool factor’ in a robe, especially for the day with denim and a mule. A go-to look when jet lag kicks in and what-to-wear seems like an equation.”
Which shoes wouldn’t you leave home without?
“My Bally loafers are super comfortable and can easily be dressed up or down with their foldable heels. They are easy to pack and of course, super chic.”
Which designer are you most excited to see?
“I always look forward to MBFWA – maybe not the flight! – but definitely the fashion. If I must choose, I’m most looking forward to seeing Dion Lee this season – he’s the opening show of the week and we’re planning to launch a trunkshow of his full collection immediately after.”
Chelsea Power, studio buyer at MATCHESFASHION.COM
What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?
“I’ll be channelling the romantic trend and wearing Zimmermann floral print dresses, Chloe tops paired with denim and pale pink knits and separates from Raey. I think this trend will work perfectly in the sunny Sydney climate and of course the knits are useful for when the sun goes down.”
Which shoes wouldn’t you leave home without?
“It’s too hard to pick just one pair so am going to choose two – one for day and one for evening. For day I’ll be packing a pair of Goya sandals – not only super comfortable they’re also chic, timeless and will go with everything. For evening I’ll pack a pair of pumps from the recently launched collaboration between Self-portrait and Robert Clergerie – I love the Leyla suede sandals which are the perfect fusion between Clergerie’s contemporary aesthetic and Self-Portrait’s hyper-feminine fabrics.”
Which designer are you most excited to see?
“I’m really looking forward to seeing Albus Lumen’s show as we picked them up for SS17 and love what Marina is doing with the brand.”
Emma Pull, buyer at Farfetch
What trend will you be wearing at MBFWA?
“I’m loving yellow at the moment – I genuinely think that it cheers people up. I just got my hands on a beautiful yellow ruffle dress from Philosophy and can’t wait to wear it.”
Which shoes wouldn’t you leave home without?
“My black Old Skool Vans. I know how busy the week is going to be and they’re so easy to run around in.”
Which designer are you most excited to see?
“Michael Lo Sordo; it was great meeting him in Paris last year and I also loved his collection. He makes a great silk trench coat, which is always on my wish list.”
