There were a lot of statements made at the Viktor & Rolf haute couture spring 2019 show today. From a straight out ‘No’ emblazoned onto a triangular, blue, ruffled dress to a more complex ‘Sorry I’m Late I Didn’t Want To Come’ and a simple, ‘Go Fuck Yourself’, the dresses told many, many stories.
It was a show all about making a statement, and boy did they succeed. Flat out honest, sometimes lewd and somewhat #woke, the 17-piece collection was a real wake up from couture’s almost painfully pretty canon. In fact, it was fun and funny at the same time. And pretty, too — those dresses were works of art in themselves. So which one are you?
Meme-like in their messages, each snappy line accentuated a feeling or emotion. From downright annoyance or delight to something a little more poignant, each look tells a story. Whether it’s the feeling you get after a hard day at work or what you want to tell the creepy man on the train, Viktor & Rolf have a couture dress for you.
Now, when will we get these in T-shirt form?
