The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, an annual event showcasing the brand’s lingerie, was a steadfast moment on the fashion schedule from 1995 to 2018.
Many young women and aspiring designers would gather to see the latest creations and enjoy the pageantry, while also tuning in to watch high profile singers perform on the runway.
However, there’s no denying that the show faced high levels of controversy and was eventually cancelled in 2018 under mounting pressure. It’s something the brand is working to address in their new offering, the Victoria’s Secret World Tour.
The tour is a reimagining of the once-popular show, designed to better champion women’s voices, perspectives and experiences.
How Different Will The Victoria’s Secret World Tour Be?
Unlike the bygone world of angels and fantasy bras, the new show will centre on trailblazers from all corners of the planet and use the Victoria’s Secret platform to promote their artistic disciplines and creativity.
It will be a feature-length film, uniting fashion, film, art and culture, bringing together creatives, supermodels and musicians.
While we might be used to the polished runway of yesteryear, the VS Tour will take us behind the scenes to the stories of what the brand is calling the ‘VS20’, a group of 20 creatives who will put on four different fashion curations across different corners of the globe.
The four hubs will be Bogotá in Colombia, Lagos in Nigeria, London in the UK, and Tokyo in Japan.
According to Raúl Martinez, Executive Vice President and Head Creative Director at Victoria’s Secret, “This film is the ultimate expression of the Victoria’s Secret brand transformation. It will be driven by fashion, glamour and entertainment with a nod to beloved iconography from the past but in a bold, redefined way.”
“We are so honoured to offer our platform and have it explored through the lens and artistry of global creatives who celebrate the individuality of women’s stories and perspectives.”
The success of the new franchise remains to be seen, but if what the executives in house at Victoria’s Secret have to say is translated into the show, it is sure to be an inspiring and entertaining spectacle (that we will hopefully want to cosy up on the couch with our friends to watch, once more).
How To Watch The Victoria’s Secret World Tour?
The new show will be live streamed internationally through Prime Video on September 26.
To celebrate this new offering, New York Fashion Week kicked off with A-list celebrities walking the ‘pink carpet’ of the Victoria’s Secret World Tour event, held in Manhattan on 6 September.
The event gave us our first glimpses of the upcoming show, and was attended by big names in the modelling industry including Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, Lourdes Leon, Julia Fox and Emily Ratajkowski.
We also finally have insight on who will be performing on the show (the musical performances were always a highlight of the previous show with the likes of Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift heading it). This year, we’ll see special performances from Doja Cat and Sabrina Carpenter.
When Is The Victoria’s Secret World Tour?
It has been reported that the Tour will be available to view from September 26 on Prime Video.
