The cult fashion house that brought Juicy Couture velour tracksuits straight from the ’00s to the fashion week runway, made you do a double take when a DHL courier walked into work, and managed to create a we’ll-line-up-around-the-block market for $1000 plus hoodies, has just released a style of jeans we certainly didn’t see coming.
But come to think of it, nothing from Vetements – the French fashion house headed by Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia (and undoubtedly the most talked about streetwear brand of the year) – you can really pinpoint in advance.
Taking to Instagram, Vetements previewed its new collaboration with Levis: denim with a serious difference.
The patchwork blue jeans and black cut-offs posted not only feature zippers down the backs of the legs, but also a zipper down the centre of the butt.
And before you ask whether said zippers are just for show and don’t actually work, please see exhibit A:
It was just last month that the internet was thrown into turmoil over a pair of ‘clear knee’ mum jeans from Topshop, and before that a smaller – but still notable – amount of confusion ensued over Re/Done’s ‘High-Rise Ass Rip Jeans’, which featured a ripped slit under the right butt cheek.
Let’s not forget: it’s only April.
We do have to commend Demna Gvasalia for creating another way to show off expensive lingerie, though.
