Red carpets were virtually non-existent for the better part of 2020, so it’s no surprise that the resurgence of awards events and film festivals in 2021 are turning out to be twice as glamorous—who are we to question it?
The latest is of course the Venice Film Festival, which formally kicked off on September 1 with a red carpet that was dripping in style. Star spotting official began with several major A-listers including Penelope Cruz, Helen Mirren and Princess Diana’s nieces Lady Amelia and Eliza Spencer appearing on day one.
Cruz, who stars in the film Madres Paralelas looked effortlessly stunning in a black and white gown with peaked straps and a billowing skirt featuring black bows with white tiered layering.
Meanwhile Princess Diana’s twin nieces, Amelia and Eliza Spencer were also spotted on the opening night red carpet, both wearing stunning floor length Alberta Ferretti gowns.
“Honoured to be wearing @albertaferretti to the opening night of the 78th edition of the Venice Film Festival #AlbertaFerreti #Venezia78,” Amelia shared on Instagram.
And of course the formidable Helen Mirren also brought her own showstopping touch to the red carpet.
The famed actress, 76, wore a striking silver sequinned design complete with a matching face mask.
The opening night marks only the beginning of the star-studded festival, which will see the casts of some of the most highly anticipated movies of the Awards season to come.
Yes, that includes Spencer, the Princess Diana biopic starring Kristen Stewart in the lead role.
With that in mind, no doubt there’s boundless red carpet fashion to come—stay tuned.
