For fashion lovers the Oscars one of the biggest dates on the calendar, in line with the Cannes Film Festival and the MET Gala.
It’s all the biggest stars donning the biggest name designers. It’s basically our Super Bowl.
But this year felt a little different.
As the stars walked on the red carpet we were dazzled by the likes of Emma Stone, Nicole Kidman, Dakota Johnson, Michelle Williams and Ruth Negga.

Alicia Vikander, Felicity Jones, Jessica Biel, Taraji P. Henson, Viola Davis and Brie Larson and models Chrissy Teigen and Karlie Kloss were also there.
But still it felt like there was something missing.
Where was Jennifer Lawrence? Where was Reese Witherspoon? What about Kate Hudson, Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow or Lupita Nyong’o? Not even Margot Robbie?

There was no George and Amal, no Blake and Ryan, no Brad Pitt, no Jennifer Lopez, no Bradley Cooper, no Matthew McConnaughey or Camilla Alves.
Was this year’s show lacking a little A-list star power or is it just us?
And without these A-listers, the jaw-dropping fashion moments that we’ve come to expect fell few and far between – which suddenly makes us realise we’re far too reliant on Cate Blanchett for those red carpet ‘WOW’ moments.

While we understand that none of the big name stars were nominated this year (and there was some *incredible* talent that was), but usually they still pull some heavyweight presenters at least…
And that’s when we saw Jennifer Aniston pop up to present the In Memoriam section, and while Leonardo DiCaprio also skipped the red carpet, he was on hand to present the Best Actress gong at least.
Thankfully however the Vanity Fair after party served up some serious star – and style – power to make up for it!
