Sheโs one of the most stylish women in Hollywood, with designers desperate to dress her in their new season looks, however stepping out on the red carpet at the opening night of the 2018 Cannes Film Festive yesterday, Cate Blanchett had other plans. And thereโs an important reason why.
The Oscar-winning actress stepped on to the iconic red carpet wearing a stunning Armani Prive lace gown, giving us all a serious case of dรฉjร vu โ because itโs the exact same one she wore some four years earlier at the 2014 Golden Globes.

โFrom couture to T-shirts, landfills are filled with garments that have been unnecessarily discarded,โ Blanchett tells The Hollywood Reporter. โParticularly in todayโs climate, it seems willful and ridiculous that such beautiful garments are not cherished and reworn for a lifetime.โ
โWe couldnโt see any reason not to re-wear a dress we love so much and so many reasons to re-wear a dress,โ her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, added. โItโs not just couture gowns that take hundreds of hours to make but all clothes that are filling landfills. We need to get the word out to get rid of this ridiculous notion that dresses cannot be worn twice! Beautiful clothes should last a lifetime.โ

As a member of this yearโs Cannes Jury and with the eyes of the world on her, Cate plans to send a powerful message through her wardrobe.
Stepping out for the jury photocall earlier in the day, the Oceanโs Eight star chose a pink pantsuit by Stella McCartney, not only a female designer but also a passionate environmentalist and advocate for sustainable fashion.

โDesigners are thinking about this stuff now and it matters to them,โ added Stewart. โOur choices will be reflective of things people are talking about.โ
