Spring is finally here and for every fashion girl, that means it’s out with the old (read: coats, cashmere, and boots) and in with the new (read: stripes, shoulder pads and sheer slips).
Scroll away to find five designer approved trends for the upcoming season.
1. Be transparent
Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior spring/summer 2017 collection brought with it the red carpet dress of the season – everyone from Bella Hadid to Diane Kruger to Sienna Miller took to the red carpet wearing the see-through design – high fashion’s answer to the ‘naked dress’. Expect it to transcend into wearable long-sleeve tops and sheer slip dresses ready to be thrown over jeans and a top.
2. ’80s baby
They’ve been making runway appearances for the past few seasons, but this spring it’s official: the ‘80s are well and truly back (and no one is surer than Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello.) Reinvent your party dresses with big shoulders, cinched-in waists, giant belts, high shine fabrics and mini lengths.
3. Floral arrangements
Before you roll your eyes and quote The Devil Wears Prada, this season florals really are groundbreaking. From wearing them top-to-toe (a la Balenciaga) to ’70s hippie designs (a la Chloé), florals have taken on a whole new – bigger, brighter and bolder – look.
4. Romance me
Pastel colours, ruffles, lace, and light, ethereal fabrics all have the tick of approval for spring (hello, Zimmermann!). This trend is perfect for those who love feminine dresses and flirty shapes, but can easily be given an edge when paired with a leather jacket or boots.
5. Graphic stripes
Stripes have been reinvented for spring, boasting bright colourways, differing directions, and a sporty aesthetic. Wear this trend top-to-toe or opt for the season’s next cult buy: striped wide-legged pants.
