Steven Khalil has fast become one of the most sought after wedding dress designers for brides-to-be.
The Australian’s creations, which have been worn by the likes of Nicole Trunfio and Ksenija Lukich, are fast becoming known worldwide, with brides prepared to line up around the block to wear one down the aisle.
So how much does a gown like the above cost? Khalil says the price brides are willing to pay has definitely gone up in recent years, with the average Steven Khalil dress costing around $15,000.
He credits the spike to demand. Not only for him, specifically, but for the details, fabric and embellishments.
“For my clientele, it’s becoming a lot more detailed, and more opulent,” he says of current bridal trends.
“A lot more of a grander look, a lot more detailed veils. But it’s still very diverse too, you’ve got simple gowns as well that are coming through. The slip dress – a beautiful simple satin slip – is definitely back.”
“We went through that fishtail stage and that fitted gown stage, but now we are really are in that full wedding gown era – and it’s really beautiful because I love a full wedding gown and the idea of a traditional looking bride,” the designer says.
Khalil likes to see brides up to a year in advance for their first consultation, saying that if he could give women who are searching for the perfect dress one piece of advice it would be: wear something timeless and something that you feel the most comfortable in.
“You might think you want a full gown but when you put it on you might feel silly in it, he says.
“It’s about what is going to make you feel magical. Try a few things on and seeing how each shape makes you feel.”
