This season’s Ferragamo woman could be a Hitchcock muse. Pastel skirt suit, dainty heels, chic handbag, sleek sunglasses.
It’s no coincidence, really. For spring/summer 2021, the Florentine house produced and screened a Hitchcock-inspired film directed by Oscar winner Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name), followed by a runway presentation.
Both phases brought the drama, suspense and breathtaking backdrops (the show took place in Milan’s grandiose Rotonda della Besana), but it was the clothes that really starred. A white leather midi dress opened the show, followed by a perforated lemon two-piece, feather-tassled trousers, honeycomb-knitted frocks and all manner of delicious sorbet hues.
Then there were the shoes, always a talking point for a brand built on footwear; this season the line hinged on ladylike square-toe slingbacks and the iconic F-wedge heel.
In theory this collection drew inspiration from dark and twisted corners (creative director Paul Andrew admits he binged on Hitchcock during lockdown).
