Saint Laurent Delves Into The Archives For Its Latest Collection

In a quintessential display of Parisienne elegance, Saint Laurent has presented their Spring/Summer 2024 collection under the glimmer of the Eiffel Tower.

For his eighth year at the helm of the iconic French brand, Anthony Vaccarello dove into the Saint Laurent archives to produce a collection brimming with reinventions of the house’s signature styles and silhouettes.

Among them were borrowed-from-the-boys staples like structured boiler suits and slouchy cargo pants, as well as more feminine styles that exuded YSL’s French-girl cool like slinky minis and silk kaftans.

By revisiting the brand’s signature codes, Vaccarello sought to reinvent them with pragmatism at the fore, “with couture-informed daytime looks and a looser silhouette than in past seasons,” the show notes explained.

This aim took inspiration from iconic women in history including Amelia Earhart and Adrienne Bolland, both of whom were pioneers in aviation, a domain once considered exclusively male.

Their influence was at once obvious (in elements like flight suits, gloves, and aviator glasses) and subtle, with the collection redefining typically masculine styles through the addition of sleek stilettos, sleek fabrications, and low-slung necklines.

The fusion of masculine and feminine also found expression in the collection’s colour palette, which comprised an earthy mix of khaki, beige, black, and white, as well as the accessories offering, which juxtaposed oversized bangles with leather gloves, and necklaces atop head caps.

The show’s front row was also fittingly star studded, with stars including Ausitn Butler, Hailey Bieber, Zoe Kravitz, Kate Moss, Caral Bruni and Rosé turning out for the occasion.

Seated amidst the fully marble set beneath the glimmer of the Eiffel Tower, this front row looks set to take out the most stylish of Paris Fashion Week so far.
